Shane Knobloch Selected for Team USA U-21 World Championship Roster – Rutgers University Athletics – Rutgers Scarlet Knights

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men’s lacrosse midfielder Shane Knobloch made the Team USA squad following an impressive tryout. One of six newcomers at the US U-21 training camp in Columbus, Knobloch scored multiple goals in the team’s games during the first weekend of November to validate his place on the roster. Knobloch will be a member of the final 23-player roster that will represent the country in the 2022 World Lacrosse Men’s U21 World Championship, which will take place Aug. 10-20, 2022 in Limerick, Ireland.

“I had nothing to lose, coming here and trying out,” Knobloch told USA Lacrosse Magazine after excelling during the training camp. “These guys have already been on the team, so being able to have a chance at this is amazing. I was going in blind. It’s easy to call this a brotherhood and it’s easy to get around the red, white and blue.”

Knobloch is the second Scarlet Knights to ever win Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the USILA. The Moorestown, N.J. native made an instant impact as a newcomer, starting 11 games.

Knobloch scored 16 goals and had five assists for 21 points with 12 ground balls, recording five multi-goal games in his first six collegiate games. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times and was recognized by Inside Lacrosse as a Midseason All-American.

The next event for the team will be training weekend at USA Lacrosse headquarters in June.
