Minors: Strahm starts rehab with El Paso; Missions sweep doubleheader – The San Diego Union-Tribune

Matt Strahm was in the strike zone quite a bit in a long-anticipated start to a rehab assignment.

The 29-year-old left-hander threw 16 of his 18 pitches for strikes and struck out three in an inning of work in Triple-A El Paso’s 10-6 loss in a seven-inning game on Saturday night.

Strahm allowed two hits and surrendered two unearned runs after left-hander Jerry Keel allow four homers in four innings, including three to Albuquerque’s Taylor Motter.

Strahm has been on the injured list following offseason knee surgery.

He is expected to return to the Padres’ bullpen in the second half.

Catcher Luis Campusano (.829 OPS) tripled in this loss and later hit his eighth homer in El Paso’s 3-2 win in the nightcap.

Nick Tanielu (.709 OPS) hit his seventh and eighth homers in that game and left-hander Aaron Leasher (13.50 ERA) struck out six and allowed two runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings in the start.

Before the doubleheader, right-hander Chase Johnson (10.80 ERA) was released and infielder Zack Mathis was transferred to high Single-A Fort Wayne.

El Paso is 28-39.
