Job Drops to Top-Ranked Forbes at ITA National Fall Championships – Kansas State University Athletics – K-StateSports.com

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – At the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Fall Championships in San Diego, California, senior Karine-Marion Job fell to the No. 1 player in the field on Thursday (November 4) at the Barnes Tennis Complex.

Despite the loss, history was still made as Job is the first Wildcat in program history to compete at the ITA National Fall Championships.

During the main singles draw, Job competed with 32 of the top national collegiate athletes. The Lyon, France native was up against No. 1 Abigail Forbes from UCLA.

“This is the best player she (Karine-Marion Job) has ever played, and credit goes to them,” stated head coach Jordan Smith. “Hands down, this was some of the best tennis I have ever seen. It was just one of those days where KJ couldn’t do much. It is a level we strive to get to, and it is not easy to get to it in the beginning.”

The competition was tough, and Job was scoreless against Forbes, 6-0, 6-0.

Match play will continue for Job as she will compete in the consolation bracket on Friday (November 5) at the Barnes Tennis Complex in San Diego. Action will begin with a round of 16, followed by consolation singles quarterfinals.

“KJ will have a quick turnaround and be ready to play against someone who has the same feelings as her,” said Smith. “She will need to go out there and show more in the consolation tournament.”
