Deal Alert: Long Haul Business Class Under $1,300 This Summer! – Simple Flying

Our friends at Mighty Travels have flagged three new exceptionally affordable business class trips for both our European and our US readers. On the table today are connections from Europe to Southeast Asia, as well as from North America to South America.

To Phuket from Stockholm in business next month – $1,291

The first deal sees a connection from Stockholm to the popular Thai resort of Phuket, departing May 23rd for a nice 10-day break on tropical beaches. While Phuket itself is lovely, it’s also the jumping off point for a bunch of exotic and luxurious destinations, including the party island of Koh Phi Phi and the snorkeling paradise of the Similan Islands.

Departing in the afternoon of the 23rd from ARN airport, snagging this bargain-basement fare means making some connections on the way. Austrian Airlines will take the first stint for a two-hour trip to Vienna, where a five-hour layover will connect the passenger to the 10 hour trip on Austrian’s 777s to Bangkok. The final hop sees another widebody service from Thai Airways, with its 777 taking the passengers to their final destination of Phuket.

Austrian Airlines’ 777 has a decent business class product. While it’s not quite the Super Diamond levels of privacy, the layout makes it a good choice for those traveling alone and in couples. Solo travelers can target the ‘throne seats’ at positions A and K in rows 1, 3, 4 and 7. Couples can choose from a window seat, or for direct aisle access the middle seats are a great pick if you’re not so fussed about the view.

All seats are completely lie flat, which means the potential for a great night’s sleep on the overnight flight. Returns will follow a similar pattern but with much shorter layovers, and without the 777 on the Thailand domestic trip – the June 2nd service from HKT is operated by Thai Smile’s A320.

The layover in Houston is just three hours or so, just enough time to browse the duty free and catch some apron action before boarding the widebody for the six-and-a-half-hour flight down to Jorge Chavez in Lima. United’s 767s are mostly outfitted with the fabulous Polaris business class product, so you can expect a very comfortable ride down to Lima.

As the capital city, Lima is packed with cultural and historical sites, including the incredible Museo Larco, documenting over 4,000 years of pre-Colombian history. Miraflores will ensure you get your fix of sun and sea, while for more avgeek action an aerial tour of the Nazca Desert will reveal the gigantic designs carved into the desert surface.

The return flight departs on August 31st, giving passengers a full two weeks to explore Lima and the surrounding area. All this for under $1,300 – at this price it’s a steal!
