Preview: Poway has bounced back from an opening-week loss to Granite Hills with wins over Eastlake and Ramona. Conner Rath, who has 43 carries for 302 yards, and Luke Gonzalez, who has 26 carries for 141 yards, lead a pounding ground game. Torrey Pines (1-1) bounced back from an opening-week loss to Cathedral Catholic to beat Rancho Bernardo. The Falcons average 222.3 yards on the ground behind Easton Clements, Dylan Friedland and Alex Taylor.

Prediction: Torrey Pines 24, Poway 21

Canyon Hills at Chula Vista

When: 6:30 p.m. today

Preview: Canyon Hills (0-2) has been outscored 75-18. Chula Vista (0-1) had its first two games canceled because of COVID-19, then lost to Hilltop 24-0 last week.

No. 5 Helix at No. 2 Cathedral Catholic

When: 7 p.m. today

Preview: Helix (2-0) started with wins over Mira Mesa (28-20) and Otay Ranch (29-14) before a COVID outbreak at Mater Dei Catholic forced a cancellation of last week’s game. Sophomore QB Ryland Jessee is maturing into a top-flight player while RB Christian Washington and WR Xavier Van are explosive players. Cathedral Catholic (2-1) bounced back from a 57-14 loss to Corona Centennial – ranked No. 17 in the nation by USA Today – to beat West Hills Chaminade 50-17. QB Charlie Mirer and RB Lucky Sutton lead a productive offense while DE Jaxon Moi is a force on defense.

Prediction: Cathedral Catholic 31, Helix 27

West Hills at Escondido

Preview: Off to a great start, West Hills (3-0) has outscored its opponents 117-19. QB Braden Oberg, who has 526 yards total offense, has hooked up with WR Max Conaway 15 times for 293 yards and 5 scores. Escondido (2-1) lost its opener 54-7 to Del Norte, but has taken down Canyon Hills (29-6) and Westview (27-20) the last 2 weeks.

Preview: After beating Sweetwater and El Camino, Grossmont (2-1) fell to Downey Warren (40-7) last week. QB Trenton Giles likes to throw to Ryan Rodieck and Giovanni Burns. Rancho Bernardo (1-2) has lost 2 in a row after an opening-week win over San Marcos. QB Mark Sladack and RB Frankie Franchina lead the offense.

Prediction: Grossmont 31, Rancho Bernardo 27

University City vs. Bishop’s at La Jolla HS

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Preview: High-scoring University City (3-0) has outscored its opponents 178-57. QB Samuel Cooper has 917 yards total offense and is completing 86.8 percent of his passes.
